the presidents cabinet is composed of federal officers appointed to certain areas of legislature. They meet once a week to discuss matters with the president relating to their jobs.
The president nominates people to his cabinet like the Secretary of State and a number of other positions. The Senate confirms these people and they are the people that run the executive branch of the government. Defense, Homeland Security, State Department, Treasury, etc. They meet with the President in the cabinet room and advise him and carry out his instructions.
