In physical weathering, how are ice and plant roots similar?
Both break open rocks by expanding in a crack.
Both cause abrasion and slowly break down rocks.
Both require many cycles of freezing and melting.
Both result from dramatic changes in temperature.
Ice freezes in the crack and expands. Plants start growing in the crack and grow out of it. Both of these cause the rock to slowly break in half from the crack.
