I would say this is true. We must remeber that the cold war was pretty much a war of politics, wit the USA for democracy and the USSR for Communism. After winning that war, the USA started to increase its influence in other nations to spread democracy in nations that were communist. Thus to this day, the United States is still increasing its influence with some resentment in nations like Russia, China, North Korea, and the Middle east.
