Can someone help me with this problem

Answer:
13. x + y = 26 + 24 = 50
14. Answer (E) 9 can not be the third side of the triangle
Step-by-step explanation:
13. In the figure we have two right angled triangles by using Pythagoras theorem in each triangle
∴ y = [tex]\sqrt{30^{2}-18^{2}}=24[/tex]
∴ x = [tex]\sqrt{10^{2}+24^{2}}=26[/tex]
∴ x + y = 26 + 24 = 50
14. In any triangle the sum of the smallest 2 sides must greater than the
third side
∵ If the lengths of the 3 sides are 7 , 16 and 9
∴ 7 + 9 = 16 and the length of the third side = 16
∴ 9 can not be the third side
