A weather balloon is inflated to a volume of 27.2 l at a pressure of 753 mmhg and a temperature of 30.9 ∘c. the balloon rises in the atmosphere to an altitude where the pressure is 395 mmhg and the temperature is -15.9 ∘c. assuming the balloon can freely expand, calculate the volume of the balloon at this altitude.

By idea gas equation we can say

[tex]PV = nRT[/tex]

here P = pressure

V = volume

n = number of moles

R = Avagadro gas constant

T = temperature

So from above expression you can see that for constant number of moleswe can say

[tex]\frac{P_1V_1}{T_1} = \frac{P_2V_2}{T_2}[/tex]

[tex]\frac{753*27.2}{273+30.9} = \frac{395*V_2}{273-15.9}[/tex]

[tex]67.4 = 1.54*V_2[/tex]

[tex] V_2 = 43.9 L[/tex]

So finally the volume will be 43.9 L
