Dramatic irony is prevalent in literature. An example of dramatic irony is a horror movie. Let's say that a character goes into a room that the audience knows a murderer is hiding. This is an example of dramatic irony since the audience knows what is happening, but the character doesn't. Essentially, dramatic irony is irony expressed through the knowledge of the audience and the lack of knowledge of the characters.
